Imagine waking up surrounded by mountains, listening to birds, frogs, and farm animals, walking along tropical nature trails, and beginning the day without rushing. This is Finca Guival: a rural farm in Costa Rica’s Osa–Golfo Dulce region where nature, everyday farm life, and human connection come together.
Here, there is no single right way to experience the trip. You can participate in activities, rest by the water, explore the farm, spend time with the group, or step away whenever you need to recharge. We welcome one travel group at a time to create a calmer, more personal, and connected experience.
Finca Guival is a family project rooted in a deep love for the land. The property came into our lives through our father, Sigifredo Valverde León, and its name honors our grandfather, Guillermo Valverde Rojas, who once lived and worked on this land. Guival combines “Gui” from Guillermo and “Val” from Valverde. His original cattle brand inspired our logo and continues to represent our family’s roots.
Since 2020, we have been transforming the farm into a growing sustainability project. Here, you will find vegetable gardens, animals, tilapia, plant nurseries, solar energy, water-conservation systems, a biodigester, and hands-on experiences that show how sustainability can be lived in a simple and authentic way.
Travelers stay in comfortable bedrooms and share spaces designed for both rest and connection. The property includes nature trails, a traditional swimming pool, a small recreational lake created by the owners, and a warm-water pool.
Finca Guival also has a sensory room: a calm, lower-stimulation space with sensory tools, coloring materials, and quiet creative activities. You can use it to rest, regulate, or simply enjoy time alone without feeling disconnected from the overall experience.
Finca Guival is not a traditional hotel or a manufactured tourist attraction. It is a living farm—imperfect, authentic, and full of stories. It is a place to slow down, get a little dirt on your shoes, try something new, and discover that travel can also feel like belonging.
Food at Finca Guival
The meals and snacks provided at Finca Guival are primarily vegetarian and are authentic Costa Rican dishes. The menu for the trip will be determined based off of the food growing during that season and what is available from the farm. The food at Finca Guival is delicious and farm to table.

Sounds:
Finca Guival is in a rural location where travelers can hear the sounds of nature. Things like birds chirping, frogs croaking, monkeys howling, and bugs buzzing are all common sounds that travelers will hear throughout the day and night.
There are many animals on the farm that also make noises including dogs barking, cows mooing, and pigs oinking.
Physical sensations:
The floors at Finca Guival are concrete and can be cold at night or in the morning.
Bugs are a part of life in Costa Rica. While the rooms are mostly bug free, some mosquitos or moths have a habit of flying in every now and then.
The air in the mountains is a little cooler and less humid than the air at sea level. Travelers can experience cooler temperatures at night and are encouraged to bring a long sleeve shirt or light sweatshirt for nighttime.
Food textures may be different from what travelers are used to at home. All food dishes are made with local ingredients and all food served will be homemade Costa Rican dishes.
Lights:
The overhead lights in guest rooms at the finca are bright. During the day, natural sunlight flows into the rooms and makes it so overhead lights are not needed.
The common areas have twinkly lights to light up the spaces at night.
All bedrooms are equipped with window curtains.
Atmosphere:
Finca Guival hosts one group at a time. Travelers will have the entire guest area to themselves. The only other people at Finca Guival during the trip will be the owners, farm employees, and trip coordinators.
The trip schedule is weather dependent. Locals always know best when it comes to weather. If plans have to be altered due to weather conditions, the hosts have back up plans in place and will make clear announcements about changes and provide the new information.
Meal times at Finca Guival are typically family style. This means that everyone eats together in a non formal way. Travelers who are sensitive to eating noises or travelers who like to eat and decompress independently, are free to remove themselves, eat somewhere else, or eat quickly and then excuse themselves.
Meeting new people can be stressful. Everyone has different cultural greetings and levels of comfort when it comes to greeting. Costa Rican greeting culture typically involves hugging. All of the hosts and staff at Finca Guival are knowledgeable on neurodivergent needs and will not take it personally if you decline a hug. Participants are encouraged to be themselves and do not need to conform to any specific greeting.
Information and announcements on the trip will be clearly communicated in person and over text so that travelers can both hear information and have the chance to ask follow up questions and have the information in writing that they can look back and reference.

This group trip has a travel buddy to accompany travelers
Neurodivergent Nomads provides a travel buddy on most of our non creator led trips. The travel buddies role is to be an advocate for travelers. They are the middleman between the tour guides and the travelers.
Their job is to help travelers with small requests, help communicate information to travelers, be an advocate for travelers, and be the person that helps travelers implement accommodations so that travelers feel properly supported throughout the trip.
The Costa Rica Rural Retreat will have a travel buddy accompanying the group. The travel buddy will be chosen based off the needs and demographics of the group. For example; if the group is primarily women, the travel buddy will be a woman.
The group will be introduced to their travel buddy in the trip whatsapp group chat at least 30 days before the group trip starts.
At Neurodivergent Nomads, we design and coordinate group trips specifically for neurodivergent people who love to travel and are looking for a community of like minded people to travel with.
We believe that everyone deserves to travel in a way that feels comfortable, accessible, and welcoming to them. We create trips where neurodivergent people can travel at a pace that feels right for them.
Neurodivergent Nomads is more than a travel company, we are a community. Our main goal is to bring people together and create spaces where people feel comfortable to be themselves.
